Hi all,
We realized very quickly it’s important as a mixed-use space to be clear, so I thought it might be useful to share some of what I’ve learned preparing to manage a space that includes hospitality where seating is located in a small gallery (or “public venue”), and shared on-site workspace/studios.
After reading a number of blogs, articles, and a few classic horror stories, I decided to first focus on the basics, business.govt.nz for Workplaces (mostly listed below).
It’s important to dig deep into the COVID-19 Public Health Response (Alert Level 2) Order 2020 where important distinctions are made between, like
- 15.Types of gatherings, distinguishing “gatherings” versus activities happening within a business or service; which is found here:
- 11.Specific controlled access requirements for businesses and services and other entities.
Important to note the part that applies to us: The businesses and services and other entities to which this clause applies must—
(a) ensure that all people who enter the workplace or use its services remain 1 metre away from each other and from workers (to the greatest extent practicable); and
(b) keep records to enable contact tracing of people who enter the workplace or use its services; and
(c) if they are an event facility of the kind described in subclause (1)(a)(iv), permit no more than 100 customers or clients to be in the workplace at any 1 time (not including workers).
Now, there are things we should ALL be familiar with by now. But here are the “basics” I mentioned above from business.govt.nz:
General
• should keep records of workers on premises (or out working) to enable contact tracing
• should keep workers 1 metre apart to the extent practicable
• must follow the Hospitality rules below if they sell food and drink for consumption in the workplace
• must meet all other health, safety and hygiene requirements.
Gallery
This is important as we have launched our first exhibition Isolations Creations with careful safety on tracing during installation, and feeling what is an appropriate approach to hosting an “opening night”.
• must keep records of all staff and customers and visitors on premises to enable contact tracing
• must keep customers, or groups of customers, 1 metre apart
• for cinemas, stadiums, venues, casinos, conference venues a maximum limit of 100 customers/visitors applies to where people are gathering in one area (XCHC will likely only be able to hold around 30 safely)
• each group of customers/visitors who know each other is capped at 10 people
• must meet all other health, safety and hygiene requirements.
Workspace / Artist Studios
After finding a handful of useful other articles, 2 stood out, and we took a few extra helpful gems listed below
#1 Discussion with WorksafeNZ. 12/5/20
#2 Bizdojo
These guys shared pictures of their layout. (we’ll do this as-well.. tomorrow)
• We’re also using www.checkin-19.com as it’s web-based and not app based. which we felt was more practical than BubbleTag and Rippl
Besides the usual, I also really liked:
• Wash your hands and be excellent to each other. These can be stressful times.
• Be respectful of other people always but specifically around feelings and concerns for hygiene standards.
• Meet [at 2:30pm] each day to hold an open drop in session to discuss any and all concerns regarding our response and how we can continue to refine it to ensure safety remains our focus. Communication is VERY important about this issue.
• Encouraging BYOB dishes.
Pedro’s Cafe
Opening Monday the 18th. More info to come. But we will:
• be serving meals.
• Everyone must be seated, groups separated by a 1 metre, and served by a single person.
• Each customer must order a meal.
• Each group of customers is capped at 10 people.
• There must be 1 metre between all groups of customers, or between individuals not in groups.
• There is a maximum of 100 customers in each distinct area.
• Records must be kept to enable contact tracing of staff and customers. - Apps which only store information on customers' devices do not meet this requirement.
• All other health, safety and hygiene requirements must be met.
** Note these restrictions do not apply to takeaways, accommodation services, food and drink for workers, vending machines, or to customers in cinemas/theatres.
Anything else?
Of course not. We have this all figured out. Now scan this thing and come say hi.
