Open Workshop #2: Pick n' mix
Exhibition Dates: February 13 – March 3
Launch Party: Friday, March 3rd @ 5:30pm
Artists may not always admit it, but we rely on community -- whether this is a community of other artists, or the community at large. For this show, artists were asked to create a work in collaboration with another artist, or by engaging with other people around them. This show represents the interactions we have had with each other and our communities, and how those dynamics influence the work we have made.
Open Workshop challenges diverse artists to work together through exploration of a common theme. It is an inclusive and self-managed ‘ideas laboratory’; the outcome being a new body of works, which engage a local community and is inspired by unexpected convergences.
This project has been generously supported by the Christchurch City Council Community Arts Development fund.
Open Workshop #1 culminated with a group of artists producing and exhibiting works around the theme of Industrial Waltham.
The purpose of Workshop #2 is to explore collective creation. Artists are asked to respond by creating a work either in collaboration with another artist with whom they have not worked previously or through an engagement with the public.
The Open Workshop series has the following objectives:
- to develop individual bodies of work, each around a shared intention.
