We're entering a new year and intend to make it the best ever!
This event consists of 2 parts.
PART ONE:
We're starting things off by warmly welcoming 2017's first exhibition entitled
"Called In..."
by Anake Goodall
This is the first time these magnificent photos are being shared publically and we are delighted Anake has chosen to share them here at XCHC; for all to enjoy.
ANAKE GOODALL
"My photographs are variously: explorations of photography as an alternative view; the study of structure and form; photography as meditative practice; image as voice; and the camera as both paint brush and mirror. Somewhere in this space there is a continuum from internal structure through accurate image capture to humour and political statement to complete abstraction. Hanging them on the wall, in public, is however the ultimate exploration of the unknown!"
"Called In..." will be displayed from January 23rd - February 3rd
Anake has graciously offered a portion of all sales to go towards the Emerging Artist Fund; formed in 2016 to help other emerging artists and performers develop their creative selves.
PART TWO:
This special evening brings song, story-telling, and visual arts; appreciating the wonder of both emerging talent, and well practiced performance.
Hosted by Mark Prain and the following colleagues contributions…
ELEANOR JONES – SINGER
KATHLEEN GALLAGHER – FILM-MAKER & NOVELLIST
CAMIA YOUNG – STORY-TELLER & LIVING DESIGN
MARK PRAIN - SINGER
ANAKE GOODALL - PHOTOGRAPHER
In amidst the sea of beautiful imagery Anake has prepared, our other creative partners for the evening include:
ELEANOR JONES
Having made her public singing debut late 2016 at XCHC to considerable acclaim.
As at home with jazz classics from Billy Holiday and Nina Simone to modern artists from Bon Ivor to Sara Barelles, Jones brings a beautiful tone and deeply warm presence to any stage.
KATHLEEN GALLAGHER
Poet, playwright, filmmaker and novelist reads from her most recent book "Earthquakes and Butterflies Otautahi Christchurch"
Accompanied by Jeff Lowe on taonga puoro and Phil Norton on piano and guitar
CAMIA YOUNG
Instigator, architect, story-‐teller and founder of XCHC speaks to redistributing income through a creator owned economy.
"If we really want/need to shift away from the productive economy to the creative economy, how to we embark on that journey?"
MARK PRAIN
Turning 60 the week before this event – he last performed professionally much closer to 30.
In the company of good friends and great talent he will attempt to do small justice as an old fella to a handful of quiet (well..) song-‐writers, Paul Kelly (the late) Leonard Cohen and (the early) Adele.
This is a very special night to us. We're celebrating our achievements so far, and looking ahead at our plans for the future; focusing on how we can better support emerging artists, performers, and creatives of all sorts in 2017! We would love for you to join us, so save the date and we'll see you then!
